Francine St George – Physio/Pilates

We had the pleasure of meeting Francine this weekend at a workshop on back and hip stability. We played around with real time ultrasound for TA, PF and quad fem, glut med and min. Needless to say, it was really interesting and very useful in terms of application of hip exercises in the Pilates context. Continue reading…

I’m back at the keyboard

In regards to ‘Where’s Melissa?’. Yes, cheeky he is because I never intended this to be a personal blog, but rather a unique kind of Pilates resource that leads you to the things you need. Having said that, it was the most highly viewed post I have ever had on the site, so maybe I need a bit of both, you tell me readers….

The bilateral mastectomy with left axial node clearance and tissue expanders was done, I am now healing and moaning and sleeping and eating and moaning some more, as it’s mighty uncomfortable down there. Panadeine Forte and Voltaren really only just touch the sides. For the time being I dabble at my keyboard, in amongst naps and answering the door to wonderful friends that are feeding us with great gusto. In about 4 weeks chemo time kicks off and the hair will go I am told, now THAT freaks me out. Enough for now, onward and upward.

Where’s Melissa?

Hi Pilates Scene readers, have you been wondering why you haven’t received your regular fix of Pilates Scene for a while? It’s because Melissa, the heart and soul of Pilates Scene, the owner and only employee, is still in hospital recovering from a bilateral mastectomy procedure she underwent last Thursday to remove breast cancer.

Poor Melissa is a hospital patient

We’re hoping she’ll be coming home this weekend.

We’ll have to play it by ear as to when she returns to updating Pilates Scene, but she misses it as much as you do, rest assured! Coming home from hospital is not the end of this journey, but the doctors say she will be rid of it before the year is out.

Since August 2008 she’s been pumping out the Pilates news for us all, for nothing more than the satisfaction, the joy of learning, and the occasional bit of positive feedback from us, her readers.

I think we all owe her a little in return, and I hope you think so too.

If you’re in Australia and you’d like to let her know that you’re thinking of her, you still have time to brighten up her hospital stay (until this weekend at least). You can send card/flowers/chocolate/champagne to:

Melissa Turnock
c/o Mater Hospital
Rocklands Road
North Sydney NSW 2060
Australia

Alternatively, you can also leave a message on her Facebook profile, her Twitter page, or right here in the comments section below this story.

I know she’ll be surprised and delighted to hear from you, and your support will really help her get back up and blogging much sooner.

Thanks in advance, on her behalf,

Alan

(Melissa’s sneaky husband, who originally helped setup her blog, still has for technical support, and decided he should sneak in and publish this without asking her about it!)
