I sourced this from IDEA Fitness Journal, Feb 2010. I am going to pin this up in the studio where I teach. It’s clear and very helpful and of course, Pilates can be a large part of this.
The American College of Sports Medicine and the American Heart Association say the following -
Adults over age 65 or adults 50-64 with chronic conditions eg Arthritis,
Do moderately intensive aerobic evercise for 30 mins a day OR
Do vigorously intense exercise 20 mins a day, 3 days a week AND
Do 8-10 strength training exercises, doing 10-15 repetitions of each 2-3 times a week AND
If you are at risk for falls, do balance exercises AND have a physical activity plan.
