Going into the business of studio ownership? Time to reinvent your Pilates brand?

There is not a lot of focus on business development/management in the Australian Pilates professional development circles, so we need to look elsewhere for guidance.

In the latest edition of IDEA Fitness Journal Oct 2009 there are some great guidelines for those of us a little challenged in the branding/marketing department. The author is Amanda Vogel.

These are the gems I drew from the article -

  • Your name should hint at what you do, or what your market can expect to get by doing business with you.
  • Try your best to have your business name match an available website URL.
  • Pick something that can be easily pronounced and spelled.
  • Do a check to see if the name is already registered before you commit.
  • Don’t leave the customer guessing, and if your business name doesn’t tell something about what you do, your tag line definitely needs to. It should offer a promise or or sum up how you help your customers. Like ‘Nike – Just Do It’. Make sure it gives a hint about how our world will be improved with you in it!
