As a body worker and open minded seeker I took myself off to see a massage therapy colleague who dabbles in healing of the not so touchy feely, but rather hocus pocus kind, I’m poking fun here, it was indeed a real and enriching experience. Scoliosis and I were ready to try something new.
Heading off for a ‘massage’ I remembered something Colin had done to my shoulder in our massage class, very hands off, but my levator scap went from high alert to mushy in a moment. Hhhmmmm, let’s see what he has in mind.
Muscle energy testing, spinal curve measurement, chakra assessment and postural placement against a plumb line were his diagnostic tools and then, to the table. He warned me what he wanted to do and I was all there with him.

With feather in hair and drum in hand, he smoked the place up a little and played the drum over my body, but the magic ingredient, a satrine crystal. Placed over my diaphragm, removed and replaced a few times through the treatment. I use the word ‘treatment’ because I felt cared for, and was being encouraged and supported through the healing experience.
Things I felt,
- a freeing up of my left abdomen and a real sense of breath flowing into my left lungs, something that I don’t usually feel at all due to the lateral shift compressing my left abdomen.
- a relaxation of the right side of my body, generally on high alert, taking care of everything. I really felt a connection with my body and could ‘feel’ where I was in space.
- hands on work with the atlas area totally improved the range of motion taking away that jammed sticky feeling I was getting at end of range.
- a quad stretch without being touched. My right quad in particular was stiff and guarded to touch initially, but by the end springy and supple.
All msl testing redone at the end and was totally different. Spinal curves less exagurated and my posture was lifted and open. All I can say is I felt happier, really aware of the ground at my feet and alive and alert by the end. I will be back for more, my third chakra and I need to get to know each other better…. Plus with an offer of contra on the table, I can pump out a batch or two of p n ham soup no sweat.
Keep your mind and heart open to the people you meet, and the possibilities of your body and mind are really truly wondrous.
