bodyrollingOn a mild winter Friday night in Sydney last week, 6 of us gathered in a Neutral Bay studio and were taken through a two hour body rolling class by the lovely Carolyn Anthony. This was a refresher class for me, having done one with her a year or two ago.

In town to conduct her pre and post natal pregnancy training program from the Centre for Womens’ Fitness in Michigan, she added in a body rolling class for the fans of this myofascial release technique done with a patented ball, the Yamuna body rolling ball. Mine’s red, but I see they come in a few different colours now.

A small-medium shaped ball that when pumped up firmly can give a very deep and specific massage, used all over the body but generally starting with releasing the three hamstring muscles. The work into the pecs, under the armpit and along the line of the ITB was particularly sharp and caused a wince or two on my part. The softness, lightness, warmth etc that it brings about in the body is matched only by a very deep remedial tissue massage, just a little cheaper!

I have found our very own, and perhaps only certified Australian Yamuna body rolling teacher, Nectaria based in Canberra ACT, at Body Intelligence Pilates and Body Rolling.
