Aahh the psoas, a maligned muscle, a misunderstood muscle, you name it, it has generated much discussion. Start playing around with the psoas strength and perhaps imbalance, and you may uncover much about your clients’ body. Back pain, overuse of obliques, imbalances in abdom recruitment all sorts of things are able to be considered when the psoas comes under your attention.
Liz Koch (pronounced Cook) is an international teacher & author with 30 years experience working with and specializing in the iliopsoas.
Pilates Pro introduced me to Liz’ work and I have since come across her website, podcast and many publications. Her book ‘The Psoas Book’ was available in the US but was SOO expensive I just couldn’t manage it. The good news is that mp3 files from the book are available at amazon.com for a few dollars. Pick your own chapter.

Somatics on the Web is a great site that addresses this area, see this article for some useful info.
From the Bowen therapists, try reading Psoas muscle and back pain.
And the final word from Kit Laughlin, Illiopsoas in back and neck pain.
This post is dedicated to my client Lara, may you continue to learn and be amazed by this intriguing body we have!
